Puma’s L.I.F.T. ad campaign is no doubt amazing. The overall choreography of the video with the movement of the dancers and set is so good and seamless. So seamless, we quickly wondered if they were infringing on our patent to map video on and around objects from one projector. After peaking into the “making of” [...]
We heard some buzz about Canon’s Neoreal exhibit at the 2009 Milan Design Week and checked it out online. Slightly disappointing, the work is not strikingly original or cutting edge. However, we did take a look at a piece called Aquatic Colors by Takahiro Matsuo. It is a somewhat interesting interactive install in which the [...]
While doing some much needed spring cleaning of my desk, I went through some old tapes and found this video of projections I did for Shepard Fairey in 2001. It is amazing to think about how far guerrilla projections have come since then.
Some background to this video begins with me meeting Shepard through Logan Hicks [...]
Puma’s L.I.F.T. ad campaign is no doubt amazing. The overall choreography of the video with the movement of the dancers and set is so good and seamless. So seamless, we quickly wondered if they were infringing on our patent to map video on and around objects from one projector. After peaking into the “making of” we learned they used multiple projectors and a lot of guesswork.
So cheers to a job well done. Except we continue to wonder if Klip should have been apart of this to let us do what we do and take out the guesswork and make it truely seamless. (If you look at the print ads you can clearly see where the model does not really fit the projection. With the klip effect, you would not have this.) We wonder because our rep was in the office of the involved ad agency with copies of our work just eight months before this campaign hit. It this a mere coincidence? Who knows.
What we do know is that our culture is one of imitation and appropriation which keeps us all on our toes to be apart of the next big thing. Since this ad campaign really brings to light that video projection is the next big thing, we at Klip Collective need to work even harder to get our name and skills out there. Because who knows how long this will last.
